It's still not too late....

Bet you thought I forgot I had a blog...ha! Well, I'm back...I just had to share this very simple and very inexpensive last minute Christmas Gift idea that will really WOW! It's a DIY Christmas ornament.
So cute, huh? It's hard to tell from this picture, but they are super sparkly!
Here's what you need:
- Any shape porcelain ornament from your favorite craft store ($1.29/each, but I got them for 50% off!)
- Some sparkly MODGE PODGE (best invention ever!)
- Sponge paint brush
- A cute photo
- Some scissors
 - Red/Green Sharpies

How to:
Simply open your MODGE PODGE, give it a quick stir and use the sponge paint brush to apply a light coat to the entire front side of the ornament. Next, grab your favorite photo, cut it out (I used fancy scissors to give my photo edges a little pizazz), use an extra dab of MODGE PODGE on the back of the picture and press it into the middle of the ornament. Let it dry for about 15 minutes. Next, grab your sharpie and write whatever you want. Be creative, but make sure to include the year (2013...for those of you with mommy brain). Then apply another quick layer of MODGE PODGE and let that dry for 15-20 minutes and voila...you have a super cute ornament to give as a last-minute gift or as a wonderful keepsake for yourself! I plan to make one every year...they really are so quick and easy and a great way to chronicle each Christmas!

Oh yeah, I'm also doing this craft with my daughter's 1st grade class this Thursday for her Holiday Party...wish me luck!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Do you twitter? Or are you TOO OLD?

Ok, I'm not really saying your old, but that's the excuse a lot of my friends use for not using "Twitter", "Instagram", "Vine" or other social media that is all the rage these days...

I've heard it all:

"I don't know how"
"What's a tweet?"
"I'll never figure it out"
"What's a HASH TAG? (# - yes, I know we call it a pound sign, but these days the kids call it a hash tag)" #kidsthesedays
"What's the point?"
"Tweeting is for TWITS, I don't have time to tweet, plus it's just a passing phase (like the internet)"

What's the point? WHAT'S THE POINT?

Get with the program...your kids are doing it and if you're not then you are missing out...not only missing out on the latest and greatest form of global communication, but likely missing out on what your kids are doing and SEEING behind your back!

Plus, there's a lot of FREE useful information for parents...take for instance a tweet I came across this morning:

...and while you're at it...

FOLLOW ME! Just click on the link with the little blue bird next to my name :) These are a few of my retweets and my own tweets, including pictures and video:

It's fun, you're not too old and who knows...you might learn a thing or two along the way and reconnect some of those synapses that got zapped during your first few years of mommyhood :) ((or parenthood, if you're a dad reading this!))
Have a great day!

Don't Judge ME!

Yes, I've turned into THAT person! I honestly never thought I'd admit it publicly, but before you judge me, consider this...I bet you are THAT person too!

The kind of person (approaching, just turned, barely past 40!) who gets excited (downright GIDDY) about the most mundane things....

Check it out!
Huh? Whatdaya think? Isn't it awesome? Please tell me I'm not alone in my pure bliss here?!

PUBLIX GOT NEW SHOPPING CARTS!
BRAND-SPANKING NEW!!!
**of course, if it was up to me, they COULD make a few MORE IMPROVEMENTS...
Click here to see what I mean

I told you it was mundane...but it MADE MY MORNING! I mean, what's not to love???

* The wheels work
* There's no crud stuck in the crevices (boogers, old food, germs, bird poo)
* They don't make any annoying noises...just shiny and new!
* Did I mention ALL the wheels work and GO IN THE SAME DIRECTION?

Awww, it's the little things in life!

Here's another view....

  I think I'm in LOVE!

Just when you thought the school lunchroom couldn't get any worse...

I know, I know, it's still summer time, but I'm sure you've been to Target and you've seen all the "BACK TO SCHOOL" stuff piling up on the shelves. Can you believe it?

It won't be long now until that first school bell rings....ahhhh, music to my ears :)...

But let's not get sidetracked here...

Back to the story...the LUNCHROOM...am I the only one who would rather be locked on a plane with 1000 snakes than step foot in a school LUNCHROOM? UHHHHH....it makes me twitch just thinking about it....

So getting to my point...today, I found something that is going to amp up the lunchroom annoyance level to an all time high...

I mean seriously??!!! Does everything to need to make noise and light up? No wonder so many kids have attention issues these days....(including mine...but mine aren't nearly as bad as you know who's kids :)

Wonder how long it's going to take school officials to "86" this R2D2?

ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR SUMMER...

Big Hugs & Happy Thoughts...
Me :)

Newtown...never forget!

I don't have a lot of time today...but when do any of us ever have all the time we need. In the few moments I did have to myself this afternoon, I finally got around to reading my People magazine (the one that's been taking up space on my nightstand for weeks, along with a bunch of other things I plan to read/get to - one day!)
Inside was a heart-wrenching article featuring some of the parents who lost children in the Newtown school shooting. How powerful! And what a remarkable reminder of how precious and short life is.
The article ended with a list of websites started by families and friends of the victims...I thought I'd take a moment to pass them along as my little way of paying it forward and keeping their memory alive.

Oops! Almost forgot to post the follow-up!

Here's the follow-up to the Mystery of Baylie's missing tooth...

Baylie apparently felt really bad about losing her tooth taking her tooth out of the bag that Mommy so painstakingly prepared on her nightstand to make it easier for the "tooth fairy" to retrieve that she wrote an apology letter to the Tooth Fairy... listen
(if you missed part one, check it out  HERE)

Now, I don't know about you, but notice she's holding the letter up to the camera and reading backwards through the paper - WTH, is she a wizard? I know this isn't a great talent, but keep in mind, she only just turned 6!
Oh yeah, one more thing, if you follow this blog regularly or know me at all personally, you know I love to videotape EVERYTHING MY KIDS DO...
You might also know that I love to joke around with my kids and they both have an excellent sense of humor, especially Baylie, she's very sarcastic too and I have NO IDEA where she gets it from yes I do!
So I hope you can appreciate how much joy I got out of her staring into the camera after she finished reading her letter and waiting for me to stop videotaping. Usually when she's done, she's the first one to yell cut (like the little movie director-in-training that she is) and say "Can I see it Mommy?!", but she didn't say "cut" and I didn't stop rolling...I love her little expression when she finally realizes it! PRICELESS!!!

Oh yeah...we never did find the missing tooth! Must be out in the backyard somewhere??!!

Movie Night with Mom!

My post on "Movie Night with Mom!" is coming up...but first a quick thought:

A friend of mine recently pointed out something very interesting about time. She said the 3-4 hour stretch between the kids getting home from school and bedtime can sometimes seem like an eternity, but you can blink and the next thing you know 3-4 months have flown by....that's how I feel. I can't believe how long it's been since I've written this blog. I do miss it, but every time I get a chance to sit down and write, something comes up...guess that's just LIFE! I'm sure you can relate...

So now that my kids are teetering on the brink of 6 and 8 I'm realizing how fast these precious childhood years are flying by. It's unreal! I swear some mornings my son wakes up an inch or two taller and my daughter says something so beyond her years it blows me away (not always in a good way :)...what happened to my babies? (sniff, sniff)

So instead of sitting by and watching these precious moments slip away, I'm doing what everyone always says to do...I'm trying my best to live in the moment, take full advantage of this time we have together and make great memories along the way that will last a lifetime...but I'm keeping it simple...introducing "Movie Night with Mom!"

Here's what I did:
I gave both kids a special "Movie Night with Mom!" ticket, which included a cool cut-off part they could redeem for popcorn.

They were able to use this ticket whenever they wanted and they could pick the movie. So of course, no surprise, they both redeemed their tickets right there on the spot - #instantgratificationgeneration
You should've seen the look on their cute little faces when I handed over what felt like the "GOLDEN TICKET"...It was nothing fancy, as you can see, I just ripped two pieces of paper out of my notepad and used a permanent marker to make the "ticket" on the back. Jake even got in on the fun and made up some additional tickets...
...one for him, one for Baylie...good for extra goodies, like more drinks and extra food - ha! Gotta love that boy!
So we had a great time watching RISE OF THE GUARDIANS (great movie!) together on Apple TV. I set them up in their own "VIP" section next to my bed (a.k.a. Their own blanket on the floor so they wouldn't get popcorn all over my bed!)
What a fun family night! (oh yeah, Daddy wasn't there because he was playing baseball)...It was something SO SIMPLE that I thought of last minute that I know we are all going to remember for a long time. You should give it a try with your own kids...it can work with all kinds of fun activities - game night with mom, dinner with mom, baking with mom...the possibilities are endless and the best part (besides spending quality time with the kids) you don't need to be a super mom oozing with creativity to do this...all you need is some paper and some popcorn...I promise, the payoff is PRICELESS!
